A lot of people do not realize you can actually set up installment agreements with the IRS on your own without paying a company. If a service is honest they will admit when you can handle it yourself instead of paying them thousands. That honesty is rare but it’s worth looking for.

I thought they promised too much. They said i could qualify for a big settlement but the IRS didn’t accept it. Still had to pay everything plus their fee.

One thing to watch for is upfront fees. My local firm charged a smaller flat fee compared to the thousands quoted by a national service. That sealed the deal for me.

To be fair the staff was patient and understanding when I was panicking. They explained things in plain English which helped a ton. The outcome wasn’t perfect but i felt supported.

I didn’t use them but my coworker did. She said they were polite and responsive but the final settlement wasn’t as low as she thought it would be. She was still glad she didn’t have to call the IRS herself.

They helped me stop some IRS wage garnishments which was a lifesaver at the time. So in that sense they did what I needed. Still the price tag was painful and i probably could have gotten the same result with a tax attorney.
