I have tried different platforms over the past few years and the one that really surprised me was Credit Karma Tax, which is now Cash App Taxes. It remained completely free, even when i had a 1099 to file. The design could definitely be improved but since the cost was zero i did not mind dealing with a slightly clunky interface.

I still prefer professionals because they handle follow-ups if anything goes wrong. When you file online you’re kind of on your own if the IRS has questions. Having someone to back you up feels safer.

One issue i faced last year was with customer support. The platform I used was fast and cheap but when i had a question it took forever to get a reply. I realized paying a little more for stronger support might be worth it.

I still feel a bit uneasy trusting all my personal info to an online platform. Even though they claim to be secure i can’t help but wonder what happens if there is a data breach. That’s the only thing holding me back.

In my case TaxAct worked fine but the interface wasn’t as smooth as TurboTax. I would still call it one of the better services though especially for the price. If cost is your main concern it’s definitely worth a look.

I have used both paid and free online filing tools. Surprisingly the free one worked just fine for me. If your taxes are basic i don’t see why you’d need to pay unless you want extra support.

I have noticed some companies use scare tactics, making it sound like the IRS is about to take everything you own. Hopefully Tax Relief Helpers doesn’t do that. If they keep it professional and calm that’s a better approach.
