TaxAct did the job but i noticed their interface felt dated compared to TurboTax. Still it was much cheaper so i did not mind. If you are confident in filing you don’t really need the extra polish.

I used Cash App Taxes and it worked fine, but i would not suggest it for complicated returns. For a simple W-2, it is great since it is completely free. If your situation is more complex you will probably be better off with a paid service.

I actually prefer filing with H&R Block online because i can walk into their office if i get stuck. That backup option is really nice. The online version itself is pretty easy to navigate. It’s a nice hybrid system.

If you value customer support TurboTax is still the king. I used their live chat and got clear answers within minutes. That gave me peace of mind. Sure it is pricier but when you are unsure about deductions, it’s worth it.

FreeTaxUSA is underrated in my opinion. The interface is simple, but it covers a lot more than most free tools. State filing isn’t free, but it was still cheaper than anything else i found. It’s my go to now.

I have tried TaxSlayer for two years and i like it. It doesn’t feel fancy, but it’s straightforward and gets the job done. They also had good pricing compared to the bigger names. It’s a solid choice for simple to moderate returns.

I think H&R Block offers a nice middle ground. It’s not as expensive as TurboTax and you can still talk to a real person if needed. For me having that backup option is worth a little extra. Accuracy matters when dealing with the IRS.

TurboTax works really well for beginners who want clear guidance. It has a simple, visual layout and explains everything in plain language. The only downside i noticed is that the price goes up pretty fast once you need more than the basic features. If cost is not your main concern, it is definitely one of the most convenient options.

I went with Cash App Taxes because it was completely free. Honestly i was skeptical, but it worked fine for my basic W-2 return. No surprise fees at all. It doesn’t offer live support though so you have to be comfortable on your own.

One problem i had with free tax software is that it locked me out unless i upgraded. I lost some of my entered data, which was really frustrating. I would say always double-check what’s actually included in the free version before you start.
