Tax Relief Advocates
I’m in a bit of a situation with the IRS and have been looking at different tax relief companies. One name that keeps popping up is Tax Relief Advocates. Supposedly, they help with things like reducing what you owe, setting up payment plans, stopping wage garnishments, and that sort of stuff.
I’m just wondering if anyone here has actually worked with them. Did they really make a difference for you, or was it just kind of the same process you could have done on your own? Also how were their fees, reasonable or pretty steep?
I don’t mind paying if they can genuinely help but I’d rather hear some real experiences before i jump in. Any feedback, good or bad, would be awesome.

I worked with them last year. They were responsive at first and did help stop the IRS letters but the fees added up quickly. I’d say it helped my stress more than my wallet.

I called them for a consultation. They explained things clearly but i didn’t sign up. Honestly a lot of what they offered I realized I could try doing on my own with the IRS website.

My cousin used them and said they negotiated her payments down. She still paid a good amount in fees though so the savings weren’t as big as advertised.

I had a decent experience. They handled my paperwork talked to the IRS and set up a plan. It was pricey but worth it for me because i was overwhelmed.

They quoted me almost $4,000 to take on my case. I couldn’t afford that so i decided to call the IRS myself. It wasn’t easy but i got on a payment plan without the extra cost.

For me it was a lifesaver. My wages were about to be garnished and they stopped it fast. That peace of mind was worth the fee even if it felt steep.

I felt like they oversold what they could do. The rep made it sound like my debt could be cut in half but in reality they just set up a payment plan.

I had a positive experience. The staff walked me through each step and they were patient with my questions. Definitely expensive though.

I didn’t hire them but my brother did. He said the process dragged on longer than expected but in the end he got relief from constant IRS calls.

They were polite and professional on the phone. I just didn’t feel comfortable paying thousands without a guarantee so I passed.

I have heard mixed things. Some people swear by them others feel scammed. I think it depends on how complex your IRS issue is.

They did help reduce the penalties on my account which saved me some money. The fees were high but i was okay with the tradeoff.

The IRS has a lot of options people don’t know about. If your case is not huge I’d try calling the IRS directly before paying a company.

They came across as very pushy when I spoke with them. I didn’t like the sales tactics so i went with a local tax attorney instead.

I was impressed with how quickly they responded to my emails. The process wasn’t cheap but they made things less stressful for me.
