I have used both paid and free online filing tools. Surprisingly the free one worked just fine for me. If your taxes are basic i don’t see why you’d need to pay unless you want extra support.

Customer support really matters to me. I had an issue one year, and the online company i used had terrible support. That taught me the best service should have reliable help when things go wrong.

I feel like the best tax service is one that updates regularly with new tax laws. That’s where professionals usually shine because they keep up with all the changes. Online software sometimes lags behind.

I’m on the fence every year. Online filing is cheaper but a professional feels safer. I think the best tax service is whichever option makes you feel less stressed during an already stressful time.

For me best means fast. I don’t want to spend hours going through forms. Online software that simplifies everything is perfect for that. The faster I’m done, the better.

One thing i like about professional services is audit support. Knowing that they’ll help me if the IRS has questions gives me peace of mind. That’s a big reason i keep paying extra.

I have noticed that smaller local accountants often give more personal attention than the big chains. That personal touch makes a huge difference. For me that’s the best service hands down.
