The Walmart locations are hit or miss depending on when you go. I went once and had to wait almost an hour because it was so busy. The service itself was good once i got in but the wait was annoying. If you go during off peak hours though it is much smoother. I would say timing is the key for those smaller setups.

When i filed with them my refund came back right on time. I was worried something might get delayed but it did not. They even sent me email updates so i knew what was happening. That little bit of communication made me feel better about the whole process. Overall i had no issues with them at all.

One thing i really liked was the status updates after filing. They emailed me to let me know when everything was accepted. It seems small but it gave me peace of mind. I hate sitting around wondering if something went wrong. Those check ins made the process feel smoother.

I think Jackson Hewitt is most useful for people with more complicated taxes. If you just have one job and nothing else you could probably save money by filing yourself. But if you have got kids, multiple jobs or side income they make it easier. They know what to look for and help you maximize your refund. It’s about matching the service to your situation.

I had a student loan deduction I was unsure about and the preparer explained it clearly. I was not sure how to apply it, but they walked me through it step by step. It gave me a lot of reassurance because I do not like guessing on tax forms. That was the year i realized sometimes it’s worth paying for help. I left feeling like everything was handled properly.

Jackson Hewitt definitely is not the cheapest, but some people do not mind paying for professional help. I know friends who would rather spend the money than risk making mistakes on their own. It’s a tradeoff between saving money and saving stress. Personally i do not mind paying more when my taxes get complicated. For simple returns though, it might not be worth it.

My experience with them was solid overall. Nothing over the top amazing, but also nothing went wrong. They got my taxes done, answered my questions and filed everything without issues. Sometimes that’s all you really want. I would probably go back if i didn’t feel like handling it myself next year.
