I used HR Block this year and did notice some sneaky fees when i tried to file my state return. The federal part was free but suddenly they wanted me to pay for state filing. It was not a huge amount but still annoying. Maybe that is part of what this lawsuit is about.

I have mixed feelings about TaxSlayer. It was affordable and did the job but i felt like the guidance could be a bit more detailed in some areas. Still for the price, it is hard to complain too much. It is ideal if you already know your way around basic tax forms.

TurboTax’s upsells are what made me switch. Every step they tried to push some add on or premium service i didn’t need. FreeTaxUSA just let me do my taxes and file without the marketing pressure. It’s not as sleek but it is much less stressful to use.

When i used TaxAct, I felt like it was built for people who already understand taxes a little bit. TurboTax on the other hand is perfect for beginners who need step-by-step guidance. Both filed successfully though, so they work.

My experience with Cash App Taxes was positive. The interface looks simple but it gets the job done. I did not encounter any glitches or problems submitting my return. Refund showed up in my bank account in about two weeks which is pretty normal. It is definitely a legit option for those who want to file without paying.

I have been filing with FreeTaxUSA for three years in a row. No problems at all and it always walks me through the forms clearly. The only downside is they don’t offer as much live help as the bigger services. But if you are comfortable doing things mostly on your own it’s 100% legit.
