One tip is to check if your bank or credit union partners with a tax software. Mine gave me access to TurboTax for a discount which made it much more affordable.

I tried FreeTaxUSA this year and was surprised at how smooth it was. Even with freelance income it only cost a small fee to file state taxes. Totally worth it in my opinion.

TurboTax has great explanations but it constantly tried to push me into more expensive versions. That part annoyed me. Still I felt confident about the accuracy

The best software depends on how complicated your taxes are. If you are self-employed or have investments you probably need more advanced features. Simpler situations can stick with free.

I prefer H&R Block mainly because it imports last year’s data easily. It saves me time not having to re-enter everything. That convenience alone makes me stick with it.

For individuals with just one job and no dependents, I think IRS Free File options are completely fine. There is no need to overpay for something basic when you can file at zero cost.

I actually switched from TurboTax to Cash App Taxes this year. It is 100% free and surprisingly smooth. It does not feel as fancy, but it gets the job done without charging extra.

I avoid TurboTax because of the price. FreeTaxUSA does the job for me every time. The interface is not as polished but once you get used to it it is straightforward and cheap.

I think H&R Block is better if you ever need in-person help. I filed online last year but knowing i could walk into an office if things went wrong gave me peace of mind.
