Honestly i am not shocked. These tax prep sites lure you in with free filing but by the time you finish there is always some kind of upgrade or hidden cost. If this lawsuit forces HR Block to be upfront with pricing, then that is a good thing for everyone.

TaxSlayer is one of those tools that just quietly gets the job done. I filed in under an hour and had zero issues. I also appreciated that it saved my info from last year, which made things faster. It is not fancy but it is reliable and cheap.

For anyone who has simple taxes FreeTaxUSA is more than enough. If you have investments, business income or more complex stuff, TurboTax might guide you better. But i did my W-2 and itemized deductions easily on FreeTaxUSA. The refund came quickly too.

The refund amount came out the same for me on both, so in the end they did the same job. The only difference was the price and how easy the process felt. TurboTax was easier but cost more, TaxAct was cheaper but a little less smooth.

Daniel007 replied to the discussion Is Cash App Taxes Legit in the forum Tax & Finance 4 months ago
I was skeptical at first because free tax filing almost always comes with strings attached. But after filing with Cash App Taxes i can say it worked as advertised. Both my state and federal went through smoothly. They even checked for some credits i would have missed. I think it is worth trying if you are tired of being overcharged elsewhere.

My parents have been using Jackson Hewitt for years and won’t switch. They like being able to sit down with someone instead of messing around with software. They said they trust the staff to make sure nothing gets missed. My mom always mentions how she feels less stressed when a professional files for her. For them, it’s worth paying extra.

I have been researching different online tax software options and TaxAct is one that keeps showing up on comparison lists. While TurboTax and H&R Block seem to dominate most conversations TaxAct has been around for many years and quietly built a reputation of its own. That makes me curious about how reliable it actually is. When dealing…

Daniel007 replied to the discussion Credit Karma Tax Review in the forum Tax & Finance 4 months ago
I think the biggest advantage with Credit Karma Tax is simplicity. It does not overwhelm you with too many extra features that you don’t even need. If you are filing something complex like multiple businesses i agree it might fall short. But for employees or people with side hustles, it checks the boxes. Plus, I like being able to store my old…

Daniel007 replied to the discussion Is Freetaxusa Legit in the forum Tax & Finance 4 months ago
Security was my biggest concern before trying FreeTaxUSA but i looked into their encryption and data protection policies and they seemed strong. After using it i never had issues with my info being compromised. It might not have the big brand reputation but it’s safe in my experience.

Daniel007 replied to the discussion Turbotax vs H&R Block in the forum Tax & Finance 4 months ago
I think TurboTax is great if you want everything to feel automatic. The design of the software makes it almost impossible to miss anything which i appreciate. I have never had an issue with my returns being accepted quickly. That said i know some folks value face to face support and H&R Block has that covered. For me though, I’ll probably stick…
