The lawsuit might not mean they did something majorly wrong. Sometimes companies get sued over small misunderstandings. Still it is worth keeping an eye on. If HR Block did mislead users they should definitely fix that and make things clearer next season.

I would say TaxSlayer is best suited for straightforward filers. It does not try to confuse you with a hundred questions like some other software does. Everything felt very organized. I finished my taxes without any frustration and that alone made it worth it.

katie replied to the discussion Freetaxusa vs Turbotax in the forum Tax & Finance 3 months ago
FreeTaxUSA reminds me of older TurboTax versions before they became overly commercial. It is simple, fast and does not waste time on flashy graphics. TurboTax still has the edge for total beginners, but if you have filed before, FreeTaxUSA is a better deal.

I have been hearing about Cash App Taxes lately and i wanted to ask if anyone here has actually used it. Every year i feel like the cost of filing goes up especially with places like TurboTax or H&R Block. Even the so called free versions end up charging extra once you get deeper into the process. Someone mentioned to me that Cash App Taxes…

I have been filing with Taxslayer for the past three years. Each year it has been reliable and my refund always came on time. It’s not as polished as TurboTax but it does what it’s supposed to. I can’t complain.

I have switched back and forth between TurboTax and TaxAct. Honestly the results were pretty much the same both times. The only difference was the cost. TurboTax feels a little more polished but TaxAct is cheaper and still accurate. That is why i now stick with it.

One thing i like about TurboTax is the ability to import forms directly from employers or investment accounts. That feature saves a lot of typing. TaxSlayer does not have as many integration options so you end up entering more info manually. That is something to keep in mind.

Credit Karma Tax worked fine for me but i did run into a few small bugs when navigating. Nothing that broke the process, but the layout froze once or twice. I had to refresh to continue. That said my return was filed and accepted quickly and the refund was deposited right on schedule. For free software, i can’t be too critical. It’s worth a…

I think FreeTaxUSA is legit but it depends on what you need. If you want step by step handholding or tax experts available 24/7 it might not be the best. But if you already understand the basics it’s accurate and very affordable.

I think H&R Block does a good job making taxes less intimidating if you are new to filing. My younger brother used it his first year because he didn’t want to risk messing something up. They even gave him free filing since his situation was simple. That positive experience made him stick with them and now he swears by it.
