These tax companies often advertise free filing but then find ways to charge extra once you get deep into the process. I used HR Block last year and i remember the pricing being confusing. I used FreeTaxUSA last year just to test it out and i did not notice any major difference in accuracy. The refund amount was exactly the same as when i used TurboTax. I’ll probably stick with FreeTaxUSA next time since it’s much cheaper.</p>

It might not look fancy but it gets everything done correctly. TurboTax does feel smoother but the price difference was huge once i added my state return. If you are comfortable doing your own taxes without too much hand-holding, FreeTaxUSA is more than enough.</p>

They quoted me a few thousand after the initial fee and when i asked what exactly they’d be doing that i couldn’t the answers were vague. I ended up calling the IRS directly and got set up on a payment plan in less than an hour.</p>
